FOREIGN POLICY

Diagram showing key determinants of foreign policy with related icons and labels.

The USA has been known as the Leader of the Free World. Leaders of Democracy. We’ve fought many a war to retain our rights to maintain a liberal world order. The pressure put on allies have put distance between us. Unfettered uncertainties have left them with a whole lot of questions and no clear answers, only actions that should give us all pause. The actions taken in this administration have gone unchecked. Our checks and balances are way off. This administration has shifted from traditional diplomacy to reconstructing transatlantic relationships. Forcing out NATO partners to reconsider alliance assumptions, especially in regards to our defense commitments. Adding unlawful tariffs and trade restrictions not only cost the everyday American more money, time and energy, it, in return reflects across the globe, until we have no support at all. We must mend those relationships with our long-standing allies, some of which have been there since our founding fathers. Negotiating is part of what Americans do best, let us get back to that table.

While the President typically leads U.S. foreign policy, a Senator has significant constitutional powers to address international issues through legislation, oversight, and the Senate’s unique “advise and consent” role

Diplomatic & Military Oversight

  • A Senator can block or advance international agreements, as treaties require a two-thirds majority, I’m prepared to work with other Senate committee members in order to ratify these Treaties.
  • ‘Ill vote to confirm or reject Ambassadors, the Secretary of State, and other high-ranking diplomats ensuring the administration’s foreign policy team aligns with democratic aligned national interests.
  • Senators can introduce resolutions to limit unauthorized military actions such as the War Powers Resolution, to prevent or end U.S. involvement in foreign conflicts. Resolutions to limit unauthorized military actions
  • the “Power of the Purse” As a Senator, we (as a team) decide the budget for foreign aid, international development (USAID), and the State Department. We can increase funding for global health or cut aid to countries violating human rights.

Legislative Action on Global Issues

  • Senators can pass laws to Protect defense stockpiles and regulate outbound investments in sensitive technologies (like AI or semiconductors) in rival nations, and combat transnational crime. Protect defense stockpiles. And I intend on doing this
  • Idaho's semiconductor industry is a major, rapidly expanding hub focused on memory chip manufacturing and R&D, anchored by Micron Technology’s $15 billion expansion in Boise. With over 12,000 employees, the sector is supported by ONsemi and a strong ecosystem of suppliers, bolstered by federal Chips Act funding and local university partnership.
  • With close ties to the semi-conductor industry here in Idaho, I performed statistical analysis for Micron Technology and their semi-conductors product markets to maximize their relative value of their product on the markets in 2016-2017
  • Humanitarian Efforts can also lead initiatives for refugee relocation, advocate for international labor standards, and support programs that combat global poverty and climate change.

·  Passing legislation to curb foreign interference in elections and drafting sanctions against aggressive foreign actors, such as those targeting Russia and China these become some of our best efforts in defending against our adversaries.

·  Creating oversight programs to monitor U.S. investments in sensitive foreign technology sectors, such as in China, Iran, or Russia are what is needed most immediately. Regulating Foreign Investment is in our very best interest

·  With goals in establishing a cohesive national cyber strategy and developing a robust cyber workforce through DOD scholarship programs we can redevelop our Cybersecurity strategies.

·  Authorizing training for foreign military forces to combat transnational crime and drug trafficking, such as in Mexico, we can bring back Foreign Military Aid and training for democracy

·  Using the Senate NATO Observer Group to bolster relationships with international allies will help in strengthening alliances.

·  Humanitarian and Development Aids have been stripped. By reinstating and directing funding through USAID and the State Department for health crises and supporting international partners like the World Food Program we can work towards our goals to align with a better moral compass

·  Trade and Economic Policies including but not limited to: negotiating fair trade deals and protecting American intellectual property from global theft, adding in the illegal tariffs and unfair trade agreements that are driving our closest allies further and farther from the US with every day that passes. By working together, we can make great strides and achievements that have fallen by the wayside created by the division that was by design, intentional. Reenacting strict sanctions against our adversaries and opening up lines of communications again with our closest allies will be a great beginning

·  War Powers and Military Authorization is the right of Congressional Approval. The current administration and sitting members of congress refusal to admit the facts surrounding the global tensions at our door step today are prohibiting US Senators from official elected duties. There must be accountability - Revising the War Powers Resolution to prevent indefinite military involvement without Congressional approval is not a solution. If we are using military members, Congress must act, without impunity.

·  Global Human Rights and addressing human trafficking by promoting democracy and the rule of law through subcommittee work. Somehow, accountability has escaped our vocabulary. Here I am again, reaching across party lines to form an invaluable solution
