As a type 1 diabetic, I can personally attest to the difficulties surrounding our current and past health debacles. One if which allows corporations to put profits over patients. Creating monopolies within the healthcare industry. United Healthcare is not only the largest US insurer, it also controls the largest claims processor, pharmacy benefit managers, and pharmacy chains, but also is the largest controllers of physicians. They’ve bought every link in the supply chain. They even control the Medicare Advantage Plan, which also takes part of your hard earned tax dollars and puts it straight in their hands. Their illegal “upcoding” charges cheated tax payers out of 3.7Billion dollars using illegal billing practices and just before the DOJ came to stop the acquisition of Amedisys Inc (a home health and hospice provider), they managed to sell off $100 million in stock shares. The data breaches that stole our most personal information was used by this corporation to begin to buy the local physician practices by squeezing them out and offering to buy at pennies to the dollar. Not only would I like to join the support in the Patients Over Profits Act that introduced in September 2025, I would like to come up with a one payer system that would benefit every individual. We all have an expiration date. It should not cost us our life savings to live long and prosper. Healthcare should be a guarantee, not a luxury, choosing to keep the lights on over medication is a very real problem everyday Americans are facing.
We are also facing a Mental Health Crises on many fronts. Lacking the care and resources needed to educate and assist those facing these crises. From diagnosis to preventative care, it’s a Full-Time job and we lack the resources for both our adults and our children. I aim to look for ways we can improve these short comings. The northern panhandle faces real problems, especially when legislation is all decided by those in the most southern regions. I want to bridge those gaps, remove red tapes and bring representation in rural communities and to the Northern Panhandle.
