Workers Rights and Idaho's "Right to Work" was established in 1985. It also follows the At-Will employment doctrine. An employer (or employee) can end the relationship at any time for any lawful reason -or no reason at all- without advanced notice. Simply put, there is no job security here in Idaho. This weakens our ability to access labor unions by allowing employees to forgo union fees while still receiving contract benefits. Key pitfalls include: diminishing collective bargaining power, potential to lower wages, reduced workplace protections and high employment instability for workers. Negative impacts of "Right to Work" laws include lower wages, reduced healthcare coverage, heightened rates of poverty and no pensions, forcing many into reliance on public assistance. I want to make changes for the greater good.
